meet the editors!

Arundhati ghosh

When not in her role as Digital Co-Editor in Chief, Arundhati Ghosh moonlights as a fourth-year English student. She was born in India but has spent most of her life in Frisco, TX. She’s invested in reading and writing in a West Bengali way (see also: has personal beef with Ray Bradbury), which is why she’s pursuing a certificate in Creative Writing. She’s a big F1 fan and an even bigger horror media enthusiast. When not cheering on Pierre Gasly or rewatching a spooky movie, she can be found on Apple Music, listening to anyone and everyone, from Lolo Zouaï to Avenged Sevenfold. She’s a big alt-pop, R&B, and hard rock/metal enjoyer.

miranda garza

Digital Co-Editor in Chief Miranda Garza is a fourth-year Journalism student with a minor in Media and Entertainment Industries from the Rio Grande Valley. She can recite “Almost Famous” word-for-word and takes pride in being the president of MUNA's fanclub. She loves colorful lights, fruit smoothies, and movies that you need to watch twice to understand. If you see her at a party, odds are that she’s waiting for someone to bring up their zodiac sign. She is a crossword puzzle enthusiast and an advocate for the Glee cast’s cover of “Cough Syrup.”

C.s. Harper

Print Co-Editor in Chief C.S. Harper is a fifth-year Neuroscience and Sociology student from Austin, TX. When she's not furiously coding on her laptop while drinking a lavender oat milk chai latte at Lucky Lab, you can find her zoning out to Arca. But she's not just a one-dimensional mutant — her music taste also includes everything from punk-jazz to Mexican folk. (Just follow her on Spotify @chavi to see!) In her spare time, she enjoys ranting about human rights and binge-watching “BoJack Horseman” and “Barry” with her over-spoiled cat, Glacier.

Sydney Meier

Sydney Meier, Afterglow’s Print Co-Editor in Chief, is a third-year Government as well as Rhetoric and Writing student from Austin, TX. Even though she is a Rhetoric student, she cannot pinpoint a definition of the term when someone asks her, “How is Rhetoric different from English?” If you ask her about Mitski or the Love Island panopticon, just expect her to ramble continuously for hours, taking different tangents along the way. If you can’t find her at any of your local coffee shops, she is probably rewatching her favorite insufferable, messy main characters on “GIRLS” or “Broad City” on her laptop when she could watch it on her TV.

JANIE BICKERTON

Digital Managing Editor Janie Bickerton is a second-year English and Classical Languages major with a minor in Media and Entertainment Industries. Originally from New Orleans, she loves any and all things music-related, with her favorite genres being the many branches of pop, ‘90s alternative rock, and anything MUNA releases. Her first concert was One Direction supported by 5SOS in 2014, a fond memory that she sadly has no evidence of because her iPod Touch lost its memory. When not writing and editing for Afterglow, Janie can be found re-watching Succession, translating Latin, searching for the best coffee in Austin, or petting whichever cat comes her way. Her biggest flaw is that she treats her Spotify Liked Songs as her go-to playlist, but she embraces all 644 songs proudly.

KAILEEN ROOKS

Content Editor Kaileen Rooks is a second-year Rhetoric and Sociology double major with a minor in Classical Studies. She hails from a nondescript suburb outside of Dallas and attributes most of her love of music to her totally awesome parents. Her favorite genres range from rap, to long-form improvisational jazz, punk rock, and anything and everything psychedelic. But she often says there’s very little music she doesn’t enjoy (and yes, that includes country). She can often be found crying to Ethel Cain in her car or furiously air-guitaring to Big Mama Thornton. When she’s not glued to her headphones, Kai spends her time reading gothic novels, researching music history, or rewatching yet another Robert Eggers film.

Catalina Perez

Content Editor Catalina Perez is a fourth year Psychology major and Journalism minor from El Paso, Texas. When she's not making her 19738743th playlist on Spotify, you can find her alphabetizing her CD collection, browsing local thrift and record stores, or chasing her dog with a remote control hover board Hello Kitty! Her music taste spans across a wide range of genres and decades, but she usually has The Smiths or Talking Heads on repeat. She aspires to one day become a music journalist covering the local music scene in Austin or possibly even London's music scene. Follow her on Instagram @caatttiiiii for a peek into her music taste and weird life occurrences.

William Beachum

Hey! My name is William Beachum and I'm the coolest guy around who also happens to be a content editor! I am a first-year Radio-Television-Film major who absolutely loves telling stories and connecting with people! I listen to mostly pop, rock, indie, and alternative music, with my favorite artists being Lucy Dacus, Ryan Beatty, Nick Drake, Greyson Chance, and Paramore! When I'm not listening to music, I love going to watch movies, stand-up shows, and plays!

isabel alvarez

Print Design Editor Isabel Alvarez is a fourth-year Advertising student from Allen, TX. Typically she can be found sitting somewhere hunched over while working on a design project, but in her free time, she might be at a concert, making herself a latte, or tending to her 12 beautiful plant children. Right now, she is probably wishing she was eating a bagel. Though her favorite artist is Phoebe Bridgers, she also frequently listens to MUNA, Kehlani, Florence + the Machine, Charli XCX, and Japanese Breakfast, but if you want to see what else is in the mix, you can follow her on Spotify (@izalvarez_).

sophie beasley

Digital design editor Sophie Beasley is a fourth-year Sustainability Studies major from Austin, Texas. When she’s not looking for new music to listen to, you can find her attempting to finish a number crochet projects, trying out new recipes, hiking, or obsessively rewatching episodes of New Girl. Her music taste spans a wide range of decades and genres and she loves receiving song recs from friends. After college, Sophie hopes to travel and move out of Texas to work with an environmental nonprofit before possibly going to graduate school. You can follow her on instagram @sophiekbeasley.

carolyn parmer

Photo Editor Carolyn Parmer is a senior journalism major with minors in global communication and history. When she’s not editing photos or writing articles (always with a cup of coffee in hand), you can find her reading, working on her podcast, or trying to find that perfect song that hits just right. Artist obsessions include Harry Styles, Maude Latour, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, 5SOS and probably eight more that she will remember right after you read this. You can see her photography on her Instagram @parmerspics and follow her on Twitter @_carolynparmer for ramblings about travel, grammar, Harry Styles, and more!

lauren stephens

Photo Editor Lauren Stephens is a fourth-year Marketing student from The Woodlands, TX. She aspires to work in the music industry full-time someday and is currently working at the Recording Academy and in2une, as well as leading the artist management team at UTalent Records. In her free time, you can find Lauren perfecting her Spotify playlists, working out at the gym, and going to concerts and co-op shows. Her music taste spans across a plethora of genres including alt rock, pop punk, indie, 90s rock, grunge, and pop. Follow her on Instagram (@laurensstephens & @laurenstephensphotos) to see the many shows she attends, and follow her on TikTok (also @laurensstephens) if you want to you’re a MCR/5SOS/Harry/PTV/Parx fan. :)

Danny Rojas

Social Media Editor Danny Rojas is a third-year Marketing student from San Antonio, TX. He’s a music lover to his very core, which has turned into the ultimate music critic. If you ever need your taste analyzed, he’s the man to ask. When he’s not listening to music, he’s probably asleep. When he is listening to music, you might find him listening to hip hop or punk rock. He’s committed to finding a place and making a name for himself within the music business, whether it be on the label side, publishing or live music.

Anna Catherine Gonzalez

Social Media Editor Anna Catherine Gonzalez is a third-year Psychology and Sociology double-major from Sugar Land, TX. She has no idea what she wants to be when she grows up into a real adult, but her inner child has always dreamed of being a full-time musician. She loves writing poetry and baking banana bread, but you're also likely to find her playing guitar or singing, drawing silly little pictures, or listening to CDs on her Hello Kitty CD player from 2007. Her music taste varies, but her most recent obsessions have been Dayglow, Deftones, julie, Nirvana, and a handful of Austin-native artists. You can follow Anna Catherine on instagram at @aannacgonzalez.
