Hyperpop and pop punk are a strange pair of genres. Both combine the abrasive aspects of punk rock with the catchy hooks of bubblegum pop, yet only one is called pop punk. However, hyperpop’s futuristic sound is influenced by the Hot Topic soundtracks of the past. If prominent pop punkers Fall Out Boy and Travis Barker’s respective collaborations with 100 gecs and underscores are anything to go by, pop punk loves hyperpop back. This playlist highlights hyperpop tracks that offer a maximalist take on Warped Tour nostalgia, embracing elements of emo and electronica alike.
